‘Sweet Mercies’ is out in paperback today!
Today ‘Sweet Mercies’ is out in paperback! It’s the second novel about the nuns of St Philmomena’s. We meet Sisters Margaret, Bridget and Cecilia again, and their friends in the fictional town of Fairbridge, and in this stand alone story, Irish Sister Bridget has to come to terms with some home truths from her Connemara background, and learn to accept that she has made some mistakes which she needs to put right. It also has kittens and bingo, and Christmas, and a lovely trip to Ireland. I loved writing this, and my own trip to Ireland for research, (my mum was from Connemara, my dad from Laois, and I used part of their experiences of emigrating to England in the 1950s for this book.)
I hope people enjoy this – I would love to hear if you do!
The gorgeous cover was designed by Dan Mogford, the illustrations are by Harriet Seed. Thanks to all at Harvill Secker for your work on this, especially Liz Foley and Ellie Steel, to my now retired agent Jo Unwin, who got my nuns into print, and to my lovely new one, Charlotte Colwill, who is cheering them on.
Thanks to everyone who has been so lovely about the nuns!
